Flint Town United have appointed Danny Holmes as their new first-team manager. The 37-year-old takes over from Lee Fowler, who left the Cymru Premier club by mutual consent this week.

Chairman Darryl Williams confirmed Holmes was the club's primary target for the role. Williams said the decision to part ways with Fowler was difficult but necessary given recent results and the team's position in the standings. The club is currently 15th, with just two points from their opening ten matches, and has conceded 24 goals while scoring only eight.

Holmes' extensive background

Danny Holmes brings a wealth of experience from a long playing and coaching career across England and Wales. He began his career at Tranmere Rovers, making 153 appearances for the club across League One and League Two. His playing career also included spells with Newport County, York City, and a successful period at Connah’s Quay Nomads where he made 141 competitive starts, won three Cymru Premier titles, and featured in an Irn-Bru Cup final.

He moved into management with Vauxhall Motors in the Northern Premier League Division One West in October 2023. In his first season, he guided the team to safety and followed that with a seventh-place finish and a play-off semi-final appearance in the 2024/25 campaign. Holmes has been out of work since leaving that role in June but remained active in preparation for his next opportunity.

A club in urgent need

Holmes arrives at a critical moment for Flint Town United. The team's recent form shows no wins in the last five games, including a 4-1 defeat to Airbus UK last week. The club's detailed stats show the scale of the challenge, with the team currently averaging 0.8 goals scored and 2.4 goals conceded per match. The new manager's immediate task is to stop the slide, with his first game in charge being a key home fixture against Ammanford this Saturday.

The new manager took training immediately after his appointment at the Essity Stadium and will now focus on preparing the squad for the challenges ahead. His first five fixtures present a key run, including games against Haverfordwest County, Colwyn Bay, and a local derby against Holywell Town. Holmes' immediate focus will be on improving the team's goal minutes, as the data shows they have conceded key goals in the first and last 15 minutes of matches this season.

Holmes' primary objective is to build momentum quickly, starting with the upcoming match against Ammanford, as he looks to guide the team away from the bottom of the table.
