History
Cambrian United, formerly known as Cambrian & Clydach Vale, was founded in 1965 and played in the South Wales Amateur League before joining the Welsh Football League in 2005. The club merged with Clydach Vale Boys and Girls Club in 1980 and 2002, with the latter merger leading to promotion to the Welsh Football League. They reached the First Division by 2007-08 and won the Welsh League Cup final in 2019, losing to Cardiff Metropolitan 2-0. The club rebranded as Cambrian United in 2024 and earned promotion to the Novira Cymru Premier after a top-two finish, becoming the first Rhondda Valley team in 20 years to reach the top flight.
Form
Cambrian United started their Novira Cymru Premier campaign with a 2-1 loss to Barry Town United, followed by a 1-1 draw against Briton Ferry Llansawel. They secured their first victory with a 1-0 win over Flint Town United, thanks to a late penalty by Liam Eason. The club currently sits 10th in the league after three games.
Manager
Liam Williams, in his third season as head coach, has guided Cambrian to 47 wins in 78 games, averaging 2.01 points per match. His team has scored 166 goals and conceded 95. Williams was named Cymru South Manager of the Month in December 2023 and led the club to Premier promotion.
Captain
Kyle Jones, 29, is Cambrian's captain after returning from Barry Town United. A Rhondda Cynon Taf native, he made 130+ Cymru South appearances and helped the club reach the Welsh Cup final. Jones featured 26 times in the 2024-25 season, contributing to 11 clean sheets and earning a place in the Cymru South Team of the Season.
Key Player
Forward Liam Eason, 28, made his Cymru Premier debut against Flint Town United. He scored 19 goals in 29 Cymru South appearances last season and was named Player of the Season twice. Eason joined Llanelli Town in January 2024, scoring 11 goals in 12 games before returning to Cambrian for their promotion campaign.
