Flint Town United's manager Lee Fowler wants to see the battling qualities come to the fore as they play their first home game of the campaign against Barry Town United. The Silkmen are looking to bounce back from their opening night 3-2 loss at newly-promoted Llandudno. Fowler said: “I’m just disappointed in the performance on Friday night. It was a tentative game, as all the games have been in round one. Their opening goal was sloppy and then from 10 to 40 minutes, we dominated the game.” Flint grabbed two goals during this period of being on top, while Fowler felt there could have been a couple of red cards for the home outfit. A quarter-of-an-hour had elapsed when Tunde Owolabi’s pace took him clear and his effort from an angle found the corner of the net. VAR played its part for the first time when the visitors took the lead. Just as Owolabi was releasing his shot, Anthony Stephens caught him with a lunging challenge. Referee Alex Livesey reviewed the incident on the pitchside monitor and awarded a penalty, which was converted by Joe Malkin. However, the second half belonged to Llandudno, with goals from Marc Williams and Mark Cadwallader sealing their success. “In the second half, they won the battle in midfield,” added Fowler. “We showed no courage or bravery. That’s the most disappointing thing for me.” This is something Fowler is keen to address and he stressed: “We have just reinforced to them what we are about and what we do. “They won second balls and long balls and it looked like we packed in.” Barry got the better of Cambrian United 2-1 in their opening encounter and looking forward to this evening, Fowler added: “It’s another team that have lost key players in key areas. “I watched their game on Friday night and they’re in a transitional period as well. They are very much a similar team to us in how they go about their business.” Jack Thorn remains out through injury for Flint, while Fowler is still looking to strengthen his squad during the summer transfer window.
