Danny Holmes has been appointed as the new manager of Flint Town United following Lee Fowler's departure. The former Cymru Premier defender, who played for The New Saints and Connah’s Quay Nomads, takes over a side that has won two of its first three matches under his interim leadership. The team currently sits 13th in the Premier League with 11 points from 14 games, having recorded three wins and two draws against nine losses this season.
Holmes stated his initial task was to 'get them going' because the squad was not performing before his arrival. He described his management approach as keeping things 'basic and simple' to allow players to express themselves, and he credited Fowler for assembling a strong group. "It’s very difficult at times, but we do a lot of work, obviously, behind the scenes," Holmes said.
Positive start under Holmes
The most recent evidence of his impact was a 2-0 away win over Trefelin last Friday. Striker Tunde Owolabi scored both goals, converting a penalty on the hour mark and then heading home a second seven minutes later. That victory lifted Flint Town United to 13th in the Premier League table with 11 points from 14 games, a position they will look to improve when they host Holywell this Friday. The team's recent form across the last five matches shows three wins and two losses, a sequence that includes a 1-3 home defeat to Caernarfon Town on Saturday 17 October and a 1-0 win over Haverfordwest County AFC on Saturday 3 October. The side has scored 14 goals while conceding 25, leaving them with a goal difference of negative 11 and 29 points behind the league leaders.
Owolabi has now scored in two of the four matches Holmes has overseen, providing a key attacking threat. Their next opponents, Holywell, currently sit 16th, making this a key opportunity to build momentum ahead of the home fixture on Friday 30 October.
The club will hope Holmes's experience from his playing days in the league translates into sustained progress. His immediate focus is on preparing the squad for the Holywell fixture at home on October 30.
